Clara Barton National Historic Site

Clara Barton National Historic Site honors the life & work of an amazing woman. Clara Barton was the founder of the American Red Cross, a tireless worker during the Civil War, & this house was her home for the last 15 years of her life. Built in 1891, it was first used as a warehouse for Red Cross disaster relief supplies. As of 1897 Barton made it her home & the headquarters for the American Red Cross.

Clara Barton chose the design of the house, modeling it on the shelters that the American Red Cross had used previously.
