August 18, 2009 - it is hard to believe that we have been married 30 years! Our anniversary day started with a VERY special breakfast .... in a New York deli a block from the hotel! Actually, we enjoyed eating there every day, as it offered a much more real taste of New York than the fancy cafe in the hotel.
We then took a Circle Line boat for a tour along the Hudson River. It was a wonderful way to see more of the city.
(L) The USS Intrepid (now a museum) and one of the four retired SST Concorde airplanes. (R) The Colgate clock, seen along the Hudson River for decades, is five stories high.
(L) Lower Manhattan, and former site of the WTC. (R) Barb cooling off afterwards onshore at a water fountain park.
That evening we ate at the famous "Tavern on the Green", a beautiful restaurant in Central Park. It was a wonderful dining experience, the kind we don't usually have. The glass-encased dining room allowed for great views of the greenery of the park.
After dinner, Dan asked Barb if she would stay married to him for another 30 years ...... and she said "yes"!
Later we took a moonlit ride through Central Park in a horse-drawn chariot, a dream of Barb's.
It was later on that evening, as we were walking back to the hotel, that a severe thunderstorm blew through New York and destroyed hundreds of trees in the park. We were very thankful that we were not on the carriage ride at that time!
The following night was the big night of the trip - the culmination of our time there. We had tickets to see "The Lion King" at the Minskoff Theater on Broadway. The producers made a wonderful stage production out of the original movie, and we enjoyed it very much.
It was a wonderful time and a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary together.
Next up - some final scenes that are quintessential New York City.
